I guess the plan is working.
The Linux solidarity is breaking up. GPL v3 is highly controversial and many linux distros will probably not adopt it....unless some of the big players do that they depend on and they are forced into it by their own "brethern".

Things aren't looking all that great for linux....or are they?

I've always felt for Linux to be successful on the desktop there needs to be just ONE distro (at least to start with) that is backed to be the break out distro. The community needed to allow for that, for their own good. These Microsoft deals would probably have never been necessary if 5 years ago or so the Linux community at large came together and said, let's take the most popular distro going and feed that one, advertise it, commercialize it, and get a market share started. This 200 distro thing is just not working well. Is that too late now? Mabye not. If Ubuntu gets special attention while Dell is selling it, who knows.

I've seen no sales numbers yet....i realize Dell has not had a a full period pass since it's release to have reporting, but I didn't know if there was some barometer or data released from Dell on how it's going?
