We have been looking ahead to the time that the current Windows desktop will no longer be supported, and that would force us to migrate to something - Windows or another. It is clear incentive to have a strategy in hand at a given point in time.

Remove that "pain point," and it might look like the cheaper and easier path is to stick with what we have. My guess is that human nature could very well put this project on hold. Haven't heard from topside, because they probably haven't gotten this word, this is just a private guess. It looks to me like the ideal MS strategy.
