Apple invites Windows users on Safari

To be fair, I installed it: I shouldn't comment on Safari without installing it. Installation was simple although I did have to uncheck Bonjour and Apple update (should be unchecked by default, nice try at infecting my machine Apple). I ran Safari and immediately noticed that all the text was extremely blurry. It has to do with Safari's "Font Smoothing" but it looks terrible and there was no way of turning it off (I could only choose from light, medium, or strong). Funny how font looks crystal clear in Firefox and IE.

Next I thought I would take a look at memory usage. I opened the same page in all 3 browsers (iGoogle) and here are the results:
IE - 52.8MB
Firefox - 53.0MB
Safari - 86.6MB

Safari wins!! Oh, lower is better? Okay, I guess Safari loses.

I then tried to use the find feature since I heard it was inline like Firefox. IE find is terrible, ugh. I hit '/' like with Firefox but nothing. Okay, I'll try Ctrl-F but that just seemed to bring my focus to the address bar. Odd. I use the menu to find that Ctrl-F should have worked but didn't. Hmm. No matter, I use the menu and get the find box to show up. I type in my criteria, everything freezes for 2 seconds, the whole Safari window goes gray, and then my search results show up. Wow, impressive!

I also have to laugh at the placement of the "Report Bug" button. It is front and center, right next to the address bar. I guess they figure it will be the second most used function after "Go".

I then go to my companies Outlook Web Access site and get prompted for my credentials. So far so good. I enter them, it gets a little further, then it prompts me for my credentials again. Hmm, Firefox doesn't have problems with this (and neither does IE obviously). No problem, I go to enter them again and get greeted with "Safari Web Browser has stopped working". Hmm. Firefox doesn't have problems with this.

Back to iGoogle and I notice more formatting errors. The calendar looks all wrong. Hmm, Firefox and IE don't have problems with this.

I also like how Apple snubs its nose at Vista UI standards. Why is it that every other application I install on Vista (including Firefox) has a common look and feel but Safari looks completely different? Apple expects OSX programmers to code to OSX UI standards but they refuse to respect Vista's UI standards? Typical of Apple.
