Doesn't really WANT this to work out. The more it fails, the more people buy media the old fashioned way. Overpriced CD's.
Here's the real catch... As these online distribution companies go out of business, they take their DRM lock-downs with them and all the music customers have purchased instantly become un-useable, requiring the be purchased yet again!
The way I see it, the Music Industry will live with this little nuisance called online distribution for now because they think it will fail, taking all the authorizations with it, resulting in yet another winfall of sales to replace un-useable Music Libraries.
The Media (ZDNET, CNET, etc...) should be asking these hard questions of Apple, buy.com, Microsoft, Real, Rhapsody, etc...
"What happens to my locked-down library if you go out of business?"
I fear the answer may be frightening...
