Another bit of fortune
If DEC had got it right, Cutler and his cohort would have
stayed at DEC and delivered 64 bit VMS to the desktop with
Alpha about 1993 and blown any Wintel (or IBM) box clear
out of the water.

By the time DEC got it right (perhaps 1996), it was too late.

DEC blew it, Cutler et al went to work for Microsoft
and the rest is history.
