Taking responsibility for Linux
Remember when the SCO case began?
I commented that the result would have to be creation of an organization responsible for Linux. This organization could be sued and could issue directives, at least for the kernel.

Sounds like this is happening.

Where it's going to get complicated is the code re-users. Let's say a court finds that a non-US company or even country has to make a change for whatever reason. And let's further say that the company or country refuses, denying jurisdiction of the court or whatever.

In that case, what is the responsibility of those responsible for the Linux kernel? Can they be ordered to prevent the non-compliant company or country from receiving updates to the kernel? Would that actually make any difference to whether the company/country in question gets a revision?

These are legal issues awaiting resolution. But it's worth noting the questions about Linux have moved from responsibility to the exercise of responsibility.
I think there will come a time when the only difference between Linux and proprietary software is the income of the principals and contributors.
