excuses...again?
I think he means that Microsoft helped people get started on the computer who wouldn't have started otherwise. Would there be as many users now without them? No.

That's a common excuse and to be honest, an old one.

Ask yourself if Microsoft has ever broken the law with regards to IP rights. If you honestly find the answer to be in the affirmative, then you will find the above mentioned excuse not far behind.

Justifying an illegal act with a perceived benefit is how a crook's mind operates. If a theif rips off a bank and then gives some of that money to a charity...does that absolve them of the crime?

I also find it particularly irritating that while Microsoft aggressively protects their own IP, they do not seem all that interested in treating other's IP with the same degree of respect.

I suppose you could call that whining, tell me to buck up, it's just hardball business, get used to it, etc....but I believe the point I'm making is valid and in the interest of all businesses, including Microsoft.

What kind of world do you think we'd be living in if every business conducted their affairs like Microsoft?

I'm not so naive as to think that we live in shark infested waters...but what good does it do anyone to promote that way of life?
