Naive & not on the mark

What keeps people in IT jobs isn't necessarily technical ability, but more often if they know how to schmooze. I've seen people at fairly high grade levels maintain their jobs while getting other people to own & fix their problems, and they end up looking like heroes. I've also seen a lot of good IT people, highly skilled & experienced, in the bread lines or driving cabs. There isn't a culling of wannabees, unfortunately. There is some dead wood that gets removed, but often the ones that get removed aren't necessarily removed for reasons of ability but more often budget or some other factor.
