Culling out the IT wannabes
During the dot com boom, a bunch of people were calling themselves software engineer, IT admins, and so on. They would read a book and ... ba-boom, an instant software engineer was born. These people are getting culled out from the ranks of the true software professionals. This is a good thing. A lot of crappy software was created and distributed by these people. I myself have a BS in electrical engineering and a masters in computer science. I have 10 years of professional software engineering under my belt. I'm a contract software engineer and I get more job offers than I know what to do with. The same thing is happening over in India. It has its share of wannable, fly-by-night, software engineers. In due time, they will be culled out. American companies that hire these guys will get tired of their crappy software or will go out of business. American companies will have to pay good wages to the true Indian software engineers. A real software engineer will always get paid what he/she is worth. Its all about supply and demand.
