back in '90 i hada chance to write a PPprogram in Fortran for a connection
machine with 64 processors.
the compiler had a switch that would produce the multithreaded parallel processing program given certain break points in the code.
i have not seen the likes of it since.
the business world just isn't geared that way.
the graphics world can easily adjust though.
so if directX 10 and openGL will support parallelism it would be a step closer.
but without the hardware to handle the instruction set and the multivariate memory access and to make that easily accessible to the programmer, the point is mute.
waiting for M$ to integrate intel and amd compiler directives into a HLL other than the criptic C (whatever) so that programmers can get on with real life will be the greatest hurdle.
