Parallel Solutions

Those of us who have taken even the most fundamental of computer science courses know that there is more than one way to approach and solve a programming problem. And frequently many of us wrote code nearly identical to one another's, most likely because we were influenced by the instructor's tendencies. Does that mean we've plagarized each other's code? No,it doesn't, and those with the technical knowledge know it very well. All it means, for you who don't possess the technical knowledge, is that there are parallel methods of solving problems, and parallel algorithms. I would love to see the actual patents being infringed. Someone else has already raised the obvious vs. non-obvious issue in this thread. Microsoft's unwillingness to actually sue reveals their fear that their patents could be nullified based on that very aspect of patent law. They refuse to reveal what patents they say have been violated for the very same reason, even if they don't sue. They are just acting the part of the the 800 pound gorilla that they are. That's what makes all this chest beating seem so ridiculous to most of us.
