Get real. Unlike a book written in English that I can check out of the library and read, the source code for proprietary software isn't open for the public to examine. It's not like the authors and publishers are running their books through an obfuscator and then releasing it to the public. Considering that computer languages are much smaller, how am I supposed to know that my code doesn't match what's in some compiled package somewhere? I can't read the code to copy it in the first place, can I? I agree that published works should be copyrighted but this whole copyright of computer code is madness. As far as the incentive to create something new goes, creative people who code for the love of it will do it whether or not they are making a mint off of it.
