And are appearing.

Look at everquest. It's just an expiriment. Those willing to pay today but what if you gave it away for free with a 2 week trial? What if that software was open source? Would it change anything? Especially if under the GPL.

Take this example. Lets say I wrote Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Game like ever quest and licensed it under the GPL. I want you to use and I don't care if you pay for it as my revenue comes from you paying me to use my services to play the game online. By being open source players could tweak the software maybe even adding valuable innvoation that I could implement on the service. This gives me a feel at what the players want. See how that works? Now the server software would be proprietary and if you wanted it to set up your own server I'd license it to you much like how you buy a franchise where I get a percentage of your profits. Now then I could also license the source code under the CPL. You'd make a killing do this and all with a Mix of open source licensing and proprietary licensing. You just have to see the opportunities here.
