So? The same is true for many technologies. If it were possible, should an Open Source group give away TV sets for free? If like with OSS, the only ones who make money in this new regime are the ones who service TVs, would this arrangement not devastate the TV industry? Wouldn?t it displace jobs in the electronics and retail business, curtail business, and have a very negative effect on our economy? Now imagine scaling this arrangement across all businesses. How would people find work? How would we be able to sustain our economy?

First off TV repair men don't repair TVs. When you can buy a new TV for under $100 or pay a repair for 4 hours labour to repair your old TV at a rate of $120 per hour what choice to do you think people take. Me personally having been there I bought a new TV. I could have paid $480 to get a tuner replaced in my old 20" TV but instead I bought a New 27" with all the new features for the $489.

How do they make money putting out TVs so cheap? Look at how it's hurting the TV repair business and the sales make next to nothing on comissions on. Oh look at the woes, the economy is dying. NOT Money is made off services. Such as cable TV and Satalite, video rentals and accessories for home theatres. They sell it to you dirt cheap then make thier money off cable and sales of media.

It's the same with software and has been for a few years now. They give you free CDs of games that do litterly nothing unless you can logon to the the network gaming service at $9.99 a month. You get free movie playing software so you buy DVDs and pay for downloaded video content. You get free music software so you download and pay for musical content.

What you are seeing is a paradigm shift. You are clinging to the old Paradigm while others are moving to the new paradigm. It's a fact of life if you don't change with the times you die off like the dinosaurs. If you are quick to adapt and see the opportunities you stand to be the next Bill Gates. He took advantage of paradigm shift a look what happened.
