For any company that is going for the commercial liscence there has to be a believe in that company that what they are adding is worth the exttra costs. If it is not people will use the free mysql instead of buying the companies product. I think no product will ever move to the point that return will not be equivalent. MySQL is open source and has many contributions from world wide developers I think many companies have clever and talented programmers as well. If there is a way to improve and/or extend mysql both parties will come up with innovative ways to do it. I'm rooting for the oss guys because that means I will enjoy the benefits as well. If some company creates a brilliant extension/adaptation to mysql and decides to go for the commercial liscence then that's fine too. They pay for that privelige wich means they pay for improvements made by the mysql team. It's a win-win situation.
