"many businesses would rather pay for a license that allows them to keep their work" the liscence is not paying for mysql. It's for the right not to be forced to put your own code back in to the gpl project. The mysql part is still free. I think this is an excelent way of using both models and in no way exploitation. The selling part of a comapnies product with mysql is not mysql, people can still get that part for free, but the actual original code the company produced itself. An important nuance would't you agree?
