The best proofs of Java failing on the desktop/PC side are:

- These fools are releasing this FX stuff. Why do you think it's necessary if Java works so well on the desktop side? Why is something else necessary if Java is so wonderful as it is?
- Flash is used everywhere now, and it is not only inside browsers
- Look anywhere, no major software is coded in Java. Even applets are pretty dead now. Most of the time I see applets for technical/scientific things like: matrix inversion, neural networks algorithms, etc. and nothing else.

Why Gosling does not want to understand (maybe he is too busy buying jeans and t-shirts to look like a 17 years old boy) is that Java is mostly used by tehcnical people: medium level programmers, scientific/academic people, etc.

That's why AJAX, Flash, XUL, etc. are so popular, they don't need all the Java baggage and crudeness and I seriosly doubt that is going to change just because Java FX.
