Excellent Article
Just enough information to inspire Java applet work without to much Microsoft bashing. The Microsoft bashing is nonetheless critical in explaining why Applets are currently believed inferior by many developers including those now doing Web 2.0 work.

What could also be mentioned in the article is that I understood from Java One that JavaFX is a scripting language with a syntax much more like Java. What is called JavaScript today is actually EMCstript? The advantage of JavaFX is that those who use it will find Java Applets easier to get into.

The final note to play is that Java Applets take advantage of multi processors which means they are what you want on this years models of PCs. They were designed from the start for multiprocessors and it has been a decade of monopoly power that has prevented multiprocessors from being released to consumers. Now that this has happened the visual tools for making applets are going to be popular. Java applets are fundamentally Web 2.0
