BEA should just use Eclipse. Like MS VS, Eclipse is probably less than perfect, but already has a plugable interface and people are already familiary with it. You can use Eclipse as a dev center for WebSphere (obviously), JBoss (using Lomboz), and lots of other tasks. There are already many plugins created for Eclipse.

BEA should just swallow its pride and save itself lots of effort. Just use the Eclipse IDE and focus on making its App Servers better. I wonder if giving up on Beehive would lower BEA's rediculous price.

I love how every company touts reuse with ROI, but none of the reuse anything. We have lots of developers like that at my work as well. If they didn't build it, its crap. There was even one guy who thought he could build a better server side environment than J2EE by himself.

Wake up.. if you want to compete with MS you have to unite. After all, MS uses everyone else ideas already. They just steal them and then pay them off later after they've captured the market.
