I am smart
smarter than some and not so smart as others. I consider myself slightly above average for intelligence. But that isn't the focus here. The point I and the Rev are trying to make or at least get across is that historically the religious factions have been extremely closed minded in all aspects of their lives. This is actually futile now, and I acknowledge this here and now, for every time I have been in this type of discussion it ends up the same.

I respect a persons religion and I respect their right to practice said religion, so long as I am excluded. What I mean by that is pretty simple. I don't want you (used generically to identify any individual or group of a particular faith / belief system) to try to convert me, to restrict my personal freedoms because of your values (basically force your value system into my life) or to harass me in any way shape or form.

I will concede that there are instances where churches have done very wonderful things for people, but in the grand scheme of things, the actions of those few are greatly muted by the actions of the majority. We have free will and that means that we, as humans have the right to make decisions based on our observations. And yet the christian religions seem to despise this and therefore are overly aggressive in implementing their interpretation of enlightenment on all others. The cost is usually personal freedom and peoples lives. The muslims are even worse in that they have taken their teachings and perverted them into a tool to justify the murdering of thousands of people, all in the name of their god, allah.

In an earlier comment I made a statement to the effect that in essence both christianity and muslim faiths are very similar. And someone pointed out one of the differences. So now I will clarify my statement. Both religions teach that we are to love our (used subjectively) god and worship him (or is it really a she?), be honest and forthright, covet not thy neighbors wife, don't steal, lie, cheat or murder. These are the base foundations of just about every legitimate religion out there. So in essence they are the same. The differences come in how the religions are practiced and subtle changes in the story's (which are closer than most think).

There is plenty of room on this planet for all to co-exist in harmony. But until the narrow minded interpretations and skewed implementing of the various doctrines stop, there will never be peace on earth and their will never be an end to the bitter hatred that is perpetuated over a damn belief!

I have said it before and I will say it again, worship who you will, practice as you will. That is your right and your prerogative. If I want to join you then I will, but please stop trying to force your way of life on me and many millions of others that have made our minds up for how we want to live. Look at history and what it shows, and you will see that religion is more of a problem maker than a problem solver.

Peace, live your life in happiness and I will live mine.
