Distressing
The state of software patents in the USA is dreadful with many companies asserting their IP rights years after the so-called patent infringements have become software standards. For the European Union to completely ignore this debacle and jump feet-first into the fray indicates a complete unwillingness of their politicians to listen to the will of their constituents.

This is just plain criminal.
