Try Fedora Core 3
When going from Red Hat 9 to Fedora Core 2, it seemed to me that many things were left behind or did not work as well as they had with Red Hat 9.

Fedora Core 3 does the same thing, only it is a big step up. There were programs left behind that I had grown used to using. But there are many new programs that make life easy. The trade-off is that a faster computer is required more memory. With Fedora Core 3, you will find that most things just seem to work better.

They have released their final version of Fedora core 3. It comes with the 2.6.9 kernel.

The upgrade from Fedora Core 2 to Fedora Core 3 is painless. Basing this on my limited experience, programs that worked with Fedora Core 2 will also work with Fedora Core 3.
