Wrong
I am pissed off at GPL, because I cannot take someone's work extend it and sell for value of my extension without publishing the extension. That is not fair to commerce.

You are also wrong when saying that you could not sell GPL product. Actually, if you read carefully GPL you would notice that this is not prohibited while source code shoud be distributed together with your bundle. After all, you have to remember that GPL'es Linux is available at stores in boxed bundles... not for free , but usually for $40-$200.

And yes GPL has its potential viral effect. I also am big fan of Open Source licences, but I find GPL and LGPL hostile and tricky enough that someone might change his/her mind and suddenly LGPL code could become GPL which means it is a backdoor to propietary software built on top of it (LGPL'ed libraries). You would have to suddenly publish propietary software with source code to the community while it could be aginst your interests - those you make money on for living.

There is common innovation in CS that qualifies for GPL scheme, but there are also secrets of trade specific to industry which do not have anything to do with popular Computer Science or mathematics. Those should not be forced to be GPL'ed.

That's main reason why Apple went rather with FreeBSD and it's license to build MacOSX. That's reason why commerce go for CPL rather than GPL today.

And I am telling you that as friendly warning, because I expressed such concerns in corporation I work for as a consultant. A week or two later the same concern came to all development staff from Legal Department.
