Three bucks? Not if they paid ME the money!
Eh. Non-news. If MSFT wants to sell crippled software cheap, more power to them. But has the marketing group decided that mass suicide is really the best they can do for promotion?

As a marketing ploy, the concept of "free" half functional software sucks. Anybody who has ever been stuck with a demo semi-functional trial program can tell you that crippled anything that has been promoted as the real deal, does not bring in happy new customers.
Sure, all that crapware loaded on your Dell might result in some sales when the trial period runs out. When the customer realizes if they want to DO something with all the data they just input, (like print it) they will (sometimes) pony up for the fulll price.
But that software was put there because somebody PAID to have it included, as advertising. MSFT is betting that the public will pay them for what would be nothing more than a goad to upgrade to "real" Windows, every time they changed applications.
Good software (any product really) is something you never have to think about. A bad product is something that reminds you how much trouble it is, every time you use it.
Really bad products remind you who makes it, every time it disappoints you.

Imagine instead of the BSOD, you got a picture of Bill Gates saying "Thank you for buying Windows!" Now think of paying an additional three bucks for this feature.

Can I please have a job that pays me real money for coming up with ideas like this?
