Absolutely right!
--"Downloading movies occurs for a few reasons. 1st is you can't see the movie in theatres for what ever reason. Maybe your town has only one theatre. So downloading is an option if you want to view the movie now. Maybe you're a broke college student, wouldn't be buying movies anyways. My brother is like that, when he's in college he downloads and when he's working he buys more often buying the movie that he downloaded."--

Valenti has always had the reputation as a nut job and they thought that putting him in what is usually a figurehead position would be harmless. However, he took it seriously and has caused some major problems in Hollywood.

But to answer what I quoted: I know that is why people download movies around here:

To go to a movie, it would cost at least $70 for two people to see a show. The tickets are around $10 apiece (not including the 10% entertainment tax), snacks would add another $10-15 if you can manage to smuggle in some of your own candy (against the rules in many chains). So there's almost $40 right there. If you hire a sitter, unless you want to risk jail by leaving the oldest kid in charge of the younger, you will pay at least $5 an hour for in-house or $4-6 per hour per kid in a childcare facility. Figuring three hours if you ONLY go to the movies and make no other stops, you will add at least $20-30 to the bill (gotta tip the in-home sitter) if you have two kids. Downloading looks mighty good at that point, doesn't it?

"The Passion," for example, was available for download the same week it came out and I know a lot of people who did so because they didn't want their kids to see it 30ft across in a theater. These same people will be buying it when it comes out on DVD the end of August. They wouldn't have gone to see it in the theater because of the cost and the graphic depictions, so that money wouldn't have been spent in the first place.

I check out CDs and movies from the library without paying anything. "Fair Use" allows that kind of "public exhibition." The DMCA made it technically illegal, though it wasn't prosecuted. The DMCRA will make it legal again.
