It's not that people "don't want Linux"...
...it's that people, for the most part, never even get a chance to see Linux. With Microsoft conniving and intimidating all over the place to make sure just about every computer sold is preloaded with Windows, it's just about impossible for a non-techie to even try Linux out.

My guess is that a very high percentage of non-techies--the email, chat, and surf crowd--could just barely tell the difference between Linux and Widows, let alone have a strong preference for one over the other.
