prolonging it? not always that good...
I know I've worked with some people, who, whenever stuff goes wrong, will start getting really jumpy and antsy, and will blame themselves... if you don't calm them down, sometimes, they'll go right to the brink of an emotional break down.

yes, they're not that stable, but they're likely not if they think they broke the internet. Just tell them it was the computer, and then grill them on what happened... They get relief, while still getting to worry :P (worry about their machine being ok, not that they broke the internet)

all in all, have some fun, but not too much :P (I normally do a few fixes to the settings, then give the computer a stern finger wagging, and maybe a smack upside the tower, or two [not too hard]... then give it back, say I disciplined it, and it shouldn't misbehave again)
