The G5 is the problem
When Apple came out with the G5 PM no version of VPC could
support it. The challenge, therefore, was to carry out a major
effort to support both the G5 and previous Macs. While not a
programmer I would bet that this was a much larger task than
adding FireWire, or my dream of letting VPC capture the PC Card
slot on PowerBooks.

In terms of effort MS is has brought programmers over from
Connectix, pulled programmers from Windows and thrown in a
bunch of programmers from MBU. MS doesn't want to be
embarrassed that they cannot bring VPC up to the G5 and they
want the additional revenues that it will bring. I'm getting the
new Office for Mac professional as soon as it is released as that
is the version that will have VPC 7 - MS will make a lot of sales
off of the professional version.

In terms of current performance it really depends on what
version of a Mac you have. I just moved from a 667 PB to a 1.5
PB and VPC is almost as fast as my 1.7 Dell.

It's coming and will be a first rate app if they take the time to
test and debug if vigorously. MBU guys are very good at setting
that standard and I doubt if it will have any major problems.
