- That was my impression too...

... when I was about to buy some Windows emulator for my new Mac and found out about this acquisition by Microsoft.
My objective was to run several applications I paid for in the past hundreds of dollars (video editing suite for example) on MacOSX and its hardware while leaving Microsoft domain at home completely.
I thought to wait for VPS 7.0 to see firewire support for emulation, but I felt that Microsoft wanted to eliminate from market kind of people I am. Well... they have never bothered to release Mac emulator for Windows to get some of Mac users aboard Windws flagship. They did not need to as they are dominant on the desktop market. However, at least they could realize that providing a good emulator for any other "minority" desktop system infuses Windows and Windows based products into other markets. That could be beneficial to them. The question is whether they see it beneficial enough.
By the way, Wine for Linux still limps badly. I seem to be able to run GUI of variety of Windows applications (if I tried to use some Windows OCX's and some special DLL's), but more complex functions (in particular hardware) still don't work. Perhaps the project is too ambitious... or perhaps platform emulation is better than API emulation. - Posted by: FirstNLastN Posted on: 05/12/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
