It's very possible to break into any market. Just read some history and you'll find it everywhere.

My point is that with the money behind it, and the ease of use (not MS fault there are too many versions of Linux and not one or two versions for retail.) of windows, people will buy it. If most don't realize what their buying, there you go right there. That has also been your arguement over and over and over. So throw new machines in the market, make them easy to use out of the box and people will discover them.

You are trying to follow a democratic socialism approach to software and that is the hardest way to get it off the ground. You have to compete at the same level. Please don't tell me this can't be done. Make the damn thing look like windows if you have to, but the oss community needs to break through with ONE Linux, not 50. Otherwise you are fighting 100 different battles using an economic scheme not even used in the United STates so maybe that could be the problem? Maybe instead of crying the blues to me over and over, linux could somehow set aside their differences and allow one to be the breakthrough linux. Then, once people are comfortable with it, the Linux OEMs could start offering other versions.

One thing ABMers, as yourself, claim about Vista is this- there are too many versions and it's confusing. boo flippin hoo. There are so many versions of Linux it's killing the progress and slowing it down. It's a drag on it. Just like Unix's biggest problem....to many variants.

I like and use Windows for my livlihood. But I can adapt as I have before many times if needed. But this whole thing can't be just a negative ABMer campaign and expect it to work. There has to be sacrifices and hard decisions made.
