Lets do check the facts because it is my understanding that the core developers of FireFox wer the developers of Netscape. Lets also remember (for it is well documented) that the current owners of the Netscape browser were encouraged not to distribute it through the AOL service by being paid by Microsoft for each copy of IE downloaded. This is illegal use of monopoly power. I suppose it is irony that Microsoft operatives are unable to hide the truth owing to an internet browser the company created:>)

But all that is history. What we need is to move forward. Recently this fellow who is responsible for Samba wrote an article for Zdnet. I started wondering why 80 percent of "all Microsoft" shops have some Linux and decided that Samba is a big part of that. Microsoft management cared so little about developing IP that they allowed entire teams of developers to cash out and leave without documenting that IP. Hence Microsoft OS products do not communicate with other Microsoft OS products and Samba is necessary, meaning Linux is necessary, for that task.

Again Gates is well on record with his belief and hence company philosophy that none of the companies code has value after 5 years. I just do not see much chance of protecting IP now with that kind of philosophy.

Furthermore, IE's glaring deficiency involving UC Berkely's IP in how Active-X components are displayed in a browser, demonstrates a certain disregard for IP in general. Firefox of course uses the Berkeley IP. Microsoft should just pay the 800 million and do the same or -- and why not? Just get out of the way and let IE go.
