Sounds like what a lawyer would say...
MS is scrutinized regularly for protecting their IP which more times than we would like to count is actually someone else's IP.

Sooo..., we keep a sharp eye on their activities.

MS has been found to illegally leverage their desktop monopoly more time that we would like to have been required to force them into a Consent Decree to make them promise to compete and not stifle innovation in other companies.

Sooo..., we keep a very keen eye out for their behavior, policies and tactics.

The real truth of the matter is that the market is not entirely driven by consumer choices and spending, as this guy would have you believe. The market can and will be manipulated by entities that have the size, resources and motives to do so. Microsoft and all of the other players mentioned by "Lars" meet these criteria and all bear scrutiny and control.

Lars might like to recall that a free and open market has to meet the criterion of substitution. That is, there is an alternative product that the buyer can choose that will meet the same expectations of utility. This allows the buyer to pick among several sellers based on price, value, quality, service, etc.

The "markets" that Lars mentions are so wrapped up in proprietary protocols and data representation, that there no longer exists any notion of a free and open market. That condition is not conducive to innovation or competitive value for the buyer.

But it was a nice try to make us believe that these great companies have no other motives than to supply value and quality to their markets and customer base in order to compete openly.
