I can't wait to get my hands on Windows Longhorn Server.
With no GUI, this seems to be a good deal.

I hope this would reduce the memory footprint. For building a low-end small-form-factor server, this would be great for building a DHCP server which would act as a router. Plus, a multi-purpose server such as home automation, print server, web server, mail server (Exchange 2007), database server (SQL Server 2005 Express Edition) for storing home automation logs (like what time the door opened or if the lights are on), and perhaps a virtual server for learning more products from Microsoft like the Office Communicator Server 2007. That's 2 small-form-factor servers.

I'm in the midst of developing my own home automation software/communication service which allows me to control the lights with any computers, mobile devices, etc. and also check for status with my Pocket PC through the Internet. This is with the use of Windows Communication Foundation and Windows Workflow Foundation, developing with Microsoft Visual Studio code-named Orcas, but had to use Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition for device application development and creation of sequential and state-machine workflows, like when the telephone rings, when the guest knocked my front door, etc. Thus, I am making use of both the Windows Communication Foundation and Windows Workflow Foundation. As for Microsoft Visual Studio code-named Orcas, I'm running March CTP. When it comes to working with creating workflows, I use the Windows Workflow Foundation Extension for Visual Studio 2005. The version of the extension I use is November CTP, which is the last version that Mcrosoft provides, but Microsoft mentioned that the March CTP is the latest and encouraged (in other words, "enticed;" not "forced") me to download March CTP of Visual Studio Orcas, but had trouble as Vista gave me an error message with a hexidecimal number of (if I remember correctly) 0x80070AD, which referred some kind of service and that since I used Free Download Manager, I had trouble acquiring a URL but somehow, Internet Explorer seemed to add the "hidden" URL to the history list, so I am able to download and save the .rar files to where I wanted it (a 7-part download, which parts 1 through 6 have a file size of 700MB and part 7 has 443 MB). Even if I have lots of free space, it's pretty strange that Vista sometimes refuse me to copy the file from a temp folder to wherever I wanted...

I use Vista Ultimate RC1. My budget is tight and I'm almost out of first semester of college. I'm majoring on game development as my long-term goal. As for my short-term goal, well, I have too many that are Microsoft-related. I love to do computer programming, work as a system administrator, network administrator, administrate Microsoft Exchange Server, work with BizTalk Server, Office Communication Server, SharePoint Server, ec.

I know I'm going a bit off-topic... I feel like I'm always open for Microsoft-related oppotunities, which means I'd love to get involved with all the products Microsoft have to offer.
