Re: Open source advocate critisising Micrsoft. How new !!
The Open Source community is not resisting Microsoft opening up it's formats. It is resisting Microsoft providing an incomplete specification that cannot be implemented without inside knowledge that only Microsoft has and saying they have opened up the format. Most of us would not complain about Open XML becoming a standard if Microsoft would fill in those details that prevent others from implementing it. Although it wouldn't surprise me if many of those details are so buried in legacy code from old versions of MS Office that there is no longer anyone at Microsoft that understands them sufficiently well to actually document them.
