- I will give you some of that
-
I will give you that a good way to get people to use something is by shoving it in their face and saying it is free.
But then where are the profits? Al the major ginants you mention - such as IBM/Novell are service companies - not software companies anymore. Heck, they are not even in the software industry anymore. Do they really understand services? IBM is really struggling with this concept. Novell is too.
So by logically analyze your business case I just can't make much sense of hardly any of it - except that Linux/Open Source is free (which ultimately make its life harder).
Why free? Why!? Is that even necessary? Services take money to offer (support), and software does cost money to develop - unless some developers are just giving away all their time for free just so free loaders can take their work nowadays (which may be coming true - more socialism than anything).
But eiether way we have two costs and only one profit generator. It seems to me a very hard case to find a profit. But maybe you are right. Maybe I will wake up one day and Microsoft will be wiped off the planet - with its 50,000 employees. Oh yeah, and how would that bode for our world? 50,000 jobs lost, all those shareholders retirement funds, etc...
Man, this is really starting to get on my nerves. I will just let it go. This is my last post, reply as you do.
Sincerely,
