Soon is a relative term.....
MS rise and possible fall will seem like a blink in comparision to say the Roman Empire, or other businesses that have lasted for as much a century or so.

Open Source/Linux had gotten a huge profile boost from none other than SCO/MS themselves. More and more people have become aware that there is a competitor out there that MS fears..PERIOD!

You could not pay for better Marketing, and for Linux/Open Source it as pretty much all FREE!

MS is suffering from the death of a 1000 cuts. Not only is there Open Source/Linux, but such giants and near giants such as IBM/Novell. Then there are other fronts such as Apple. Everyone knows that MS has two main pillars her OS, and her Office Suite. Once those are removed or lessened then MS becomes just another software company and is very vulnerable.
