Okay. Where did Microsoft get their trademark in the first place? They certainly didn't invent the word. "Windows" is no different from "windows". But Microsoft didn't even invent the idea of a "window". That came even earlier.
Microsoft was unwise to copyright the word "windows". It was inevitable that the trademark would cause legal trouble in the future. It's a common noun, for crying out loud!
No, Microsoft isn't just trying to "protect their trademark". It's known the world around because it's a well-known English word, and Lindows has the right to use it. Microsoft is suing Lindows over the name simply because it gives Microsoft an excuse for suing them. This lawsuit should be filed in the same category as the MS/SCO vs. IBM lawsuit.
