Actually, it's a little more complex than this. You can copyright
a common term, if it's not already a generic term in the industry
you're copyrighting it in--for example, you can copyright
"Apple" for computers, but not in the fruit industry. Since
"windows" was long in use before MS created their operating
system, they may lose any hope of defending their copyright.
The final US decision should prove interesting. Maybe we'll end
up with the market flooded with "Redhat Windows" and "Linspire
Windows" if the court continues on in the direction it's heading.
