Not a problem
People taht don't understand open source, GPL in particular, are the only ones that are concerned.

Redhat and SUSE don't create Linux, they package it. They throw in some copyrighted/trademarked artwork and logos, but the software is available everywhere. Distributors also provide value-added service: quality assurance testing and support.

The "Linux" that Redhat sells, is the same as what every other Linux distributor sells. They may pick different packages to include or different versions of the same package. They may use different patches. But to the end user, these variations are not visible. Does SUSE include a package that Redhat doesn't? Big deal; download it and install it!

What would have been Redhat Linux 10, is now called Fedora Core 1 (and it will be released this week). That is the sum total of user visible change. They are no longer pretending to charge for it, just download it and use it.

Novell won't be creating a "new" Linux, it's still the collection of products that SUSE chose to include. Again, the most visible change may be a name change. Big woop.
