Well you can always hope

that's the facts. As you are obviously doing. What is striking about the adoption rate in 2007 v. 2001 consists of a few huge factors.

1. Mac growth has reached 6% total(only 2% on x86 though) and Vista came into the market amid many incompatibilites, a held back itunes compatibility and desperate negative ad campaign by both Apple and the FSF. Not counting the armies of zealots here posting as much negative fud as possible.

2. The OS requires fairly up to date hardware.


3. Linux is MUCH more of an option now that it was in 2001



These factors offset the overall growth in the PC market and really set the stage for a miserble beginning. But people are not stupid and they see through that kind of thing. Now that the driver issues have all but been completed and drivers above required compatibility are shipping from nvidea there is probably no stopping Vista. I would venture a guess that some borderliners that were in the market who went with teh Mac in the past, switched to Vista this time. There is so much good hardware out there and Apple's hardware is obviously very average at best. One set of problems after another with their quality keeps appearing.

If you have not watched David Berlinds video of Office Communcations Server that came out today, whether you are linux or Mac or Windows, you need to read that blog and watch the video. We are talking another amazing piece of software that plugs into Office, Sharepoint, Vista etc etc. and provides communcations of the future, now. This kind of unification could only happen with a sysetm like Windows and that Vista/.net3.0/sharepoint/Office2007/OCS stack keeps growing and growing. Amazing is the only word for it.
