Giving MSFT a taste of their own medicine
$2 per month per desktop is a loss leader. They're subsidizing the cost of the desktop with server sales. Whether this takes off or not is immaterial. Combined with Red Hat and Novell desktop initiatives is going to put downward pressure on one of MSFT's big profit centers and commoditize the desktop. Plus IBM has the industry clout to get partners to go along with porting their applications to IBM's system.

Now watch MSFT whine like a be-atch about IBM unfairly subsidizing the cost of the desktop. Billy and Stevie going to puddle up and cry for us? Come on, let's see a little tear.

I'm sure Redmond will shrug this off in public, but it's another hit below the waterline for the good ship Longhorn. That pricing should be about 60/year by the time it actually hits the streets. Guess we'll have to adjust those projected sales figures. HAHAHAHA!
