Yeah, and Nixon was my fairy godmother
<< Apparantly their lawyers think they do,>>

If they do then they're idiots. And they don't really strike me as complete idiots, although anyone involved in this whole stinking deal gets a black mark on their intelligence report card.

The lawyers were getting paid partly in stock, something which may get more than a curosory review by the bar. Taking an equity stake in a client is treading really close to the ethical line.

Even if you buy that SCO lied to Baystar and RBC, which I doubt, their legal team had to know early on their case was bogus. If you read the filings instead of assuming their lawyers believe in their case you'll quickly realize none of their arguments ever stood a chance. How many times have you ever seen the plantiff fight a delaying battle in court? The longer they could drag this out, the better chance they had to liquidate the insider stock...which their lawyers were getting as part of their compensation, hence the really glaring potential conflict of interest.

The amount of money is meangingless, it's the merits of the case that matter.

SCO is dead company walking the green mile at this point. It's only a question of what's going to kill them first: Banruptcy at the hands of a Baystar injunction, or getting simultaneously stomped in five different court cases. Take your pick. Every choice is a winner in this game.
