Actually the reason are HW & SW integration.

Few year ago there was something call proprietary. Today is like bad word, but back days, thing work... of course you needed
skilled administrator, operators and so on, but if you where in search toward to reliability, peace of mind, speed; proprietary isn't as bad as many IT analyst portrayed it was... though is expensive.
