As someone who was actually in the IT field when this happened, you would be incorrect.

Microsoft made significant in-roads into Novell's marketshare because they started bundling Microsoft Office with every Windows NT CAL. Novell attempted to respond with the purchase of WordPerfect/Quattro Pro and used a similar bundling scheme (but in reverse, a WordPerfect 6.0 Suite would get you one NetWare user connection license).

That and the fact that if you compare Windows TCO vs. NetWare TCO, Windows is WAY too expensive. Ask Anheiser-Busch, they learned their lesson the hard way wink
