My bad. Sorry...
Yes the end user WILL need to sort a terabyte of data. You obviously don't do much with video or digital photograpy if you don't see it. Heck, I remember when I bought my first 100 Gig drive and thought I would never fill it up. I was wrong, it only took about 6 months.

Stop and consider that the top of the line cameras today are around 10 Meg a photo (non-compressed original) and those cameras will be in everyones hands in a year or two. Two or three gig to store a movie is common and as HDTV becomes more popular the size of the file only gets bigger.

I get so tired of hearing folks like you talk about it only takes a limited machine to do email or web surf. I got news for you, people do a LOT more than that on their PCs and the uses are growing every day. You remind me of the folks that swore up and down no one needed a Pentium COU, a 486 was all anyone would ever need. Bzzzzztttt wrong.

The fact is that with every expansion and improvement in hardware, software and applications follow right on it's heels. Don't take my word for it, look at 20 years of history.

And finally, MS doesn't expect many people to upgrade their existing hardware. Upgrade sales have always been minimal compared to OEM distribution. The vast majority of PCs die with the same OS on it that the OEM installed when it was new.

Now, how many new PCs are sold every year? And yes, 95% of them will come with Longhorn on them. The consumer (Joe Average) will simply accept Longhorn as they have all earlier versions of Windows...
