Maybe but there is a flaw in your logic....
MS has demonstrated that IT IS THE LAW in software legal
wrangling. They win big and lose small because so many
people are scared to death of returning to the 80's where
compatibility (people STILL ask if MS Office and Office for
Mac are compatible...) and brand name differences were
costly.

Today, so much of computing is so seamless that platform
and OS are less a question of compatibility and more a
question of features, cost of ownership, security, service,
reliability and, of course, does the material solve the
problem it was supposed to solve without creating new
ones that end up costing more to deal with.
