All I can say is wow.....
Five years later into this, and did anything really happen?

Reguardless of your view of Microsoft, there must have been a better way to resolve this.

Microsoft still dominates the PC desktop, and if your goal was to end that domination, this wasn't the trick.

I would have really liked to have seem somebody go out and try to come out with a new desktop OS or something, but I don't think I ever saw the effort.

Why didn't Linux companies go out and use this opportunity to get retail Linux boxes in stores like Best Buy or Circuit City? Was Microsoft stopping them?

In the end, if Microsoft is a monopoly, and there are few alternatives (which in itself is debatable), then some of it has to do with people not even trying to compete.

Sure we've all heard the stories about how Microsoft eat children for breakfast, thus scaring off or destrying competitors, but in the end, someone has to actually DO something besides a court order being handed down.
