People are gullible!!
People who fall for these scams probably also believe everything they see in-print cause it must be true. :o

My financial institution just directs me to log in to their SECURE site and check for messages. it DOES NOT give any links in the e-mail; this is THE KEY that gives phishing away! Obviously, to get you to go to THEIR site instead of the legitimate one, they MUST get you to click on an embedded link in the message.

This goes back to the "believe everything you see in-print" principle in-that people do not HOVER the mouse pointer over the link to see where it REALLY leads to, they just click on it assuming that what they SEE is what they GET.

Whatever you put between the HTML [A]NCHOR points is what will DISPLAY on the screen, not what will be acted upon when you click; that is in the invisible (unless you hover over the link) 'HREF' argument of the link-line.
