A lot of the programmers on the big open source programs work
for companies like AOL, IBM, CA, and others. Others do it for
the glory (which fattens their resumes), and still others because
they enjoy it.

Many of the big projects have (or had) corporate backing,
OpenOffice (SUN), Mozilla/Netscape (AOL), etc.
