Like patenting fried chicken
We all have ways of doing it, but in the end it is just chicken. The question has to be addressed aobut "basic" processes and just how many are privately owned with the owners just waiting for the right time to cash in.

This patent is almost 20 years old, for petesake! I've said it before and I will say it again: if the holder is not actively making use of the patent, the patent needs to be made null and void after 7-10 years. Same with copyrights!
